TEKFEN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
About the Orchestra

Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra has been founded in 1992, originally under the name of Black Sea Chamber Orchestra, as one of the significant contributions of Tekfen to our cultural life with an aim of improving and enriching the cultural relations in the Black Sea Economic Partnership region. The chamber orchestra initially gathered 17 musicians from 11 countries, namely Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine and Greece, all signatories of the Black Sea Charter of Economic Cooperation. With time, the idea has broadened to encompass musicians from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from the Caspian Region, as well as from Egypt, Palestine, Iran, Irak, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan from the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The orchestra now called Tekfen Philharmonic grew to represent 23 countries once on stage.

Tekfen Philharmonic that comes out as a move forward for peace and friendship in a region of economic, social and political turbulence performs pieces by regional composers, with local instruments, along with its classical repertory.

Soloists joining the orchestra with their Eurasian and Middle Eastern instruments, bring their own flavour to western classical music, while creating the opportunity for various cultures to meet and know each other.

The orchestra gathers periodically, for a series of concerts in various cities of Turkey and abroad. Tekfen Philharmonic performs in the International Istanbul Music Festival alternately with other Turkish orchestras, and until now has performed in Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, France,Georgia, Germany, Greece, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar,Romania, Russia, Spain.
