Tekfen: A good institutional citizen

As a responsible member of the society, Tekfen's social, cultural and environmental contributions have become an integral part of its corporate philosophy since its foundation.

Tekfen Foundation

Tekfen Foundation for Education, Health, Culture, Arts, and Protection of Natural Habitat, a.k.a Tekfen Foundation, was founded in 1999, in order to further improve its contribution to social and cultural activities, as well as to help building up a better future in harmony with natural environment.

Tekfen Foundation awards unconditional scholarships, every year to 180 successful high school, undergraduate and graduate students who are in need of financial support.

The foundation also provides support and sponsorship for many non-governmental organizations and their activities. "One Million Children" educational campaign undertaken by TEGV - Educational Volunteers and the "Project for Improving Reproductive Health" undertaken by Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation together with Turkish Land Forces Command are among them.

In 2004, Tekfen Foundation has been classified as an "institution working for public interest" and earned tax exempt status, upon governmental decision. The Foundation, today, sponsors many art and culture activities. Apart from its regular sponsorship to the International Istanbul Music Festival, Tekfen Foundation also evaluates relevant applications from various institutions, and provides support for them.

The illumination projects of the Eyüp Sultan Mosque and the antique city of Tralleis in Aydın, electrical and illumination systems of historical Hasan Paşa Medrese that has been assigned to Eurasian Archeology Institute are among the recent activities of the Foundation.

Tekfen's Event Sponsorship in the 22nd UIA Istanbul World Architecture Congress
Tekfen Group was the event sponsor of the 22nd UIA (International Union of Architects) World Architecture Congress in Istanbul, attended by 7.000 architects from all parts of the world. The aim of the UIA's 2005 Istanbul Congress, also named as "The Cities: Grand Bazaar of the Architectures", was to create an environment for world architects to share and express their contemporary concerns, achievements and failures. In its Istanbul Declaration after the congress the UIA underlined "the very significance of the necessity to question the political, economic and technological reasons of the conceptual dissolution and separation between city and architecture". One of the significant cultural events took place within the program of this cosmopolitan, pluralist and "open to vibrations" organization was two concerts performed by Tekfen Philharmonic, a pluralist orchestra composed by musicians from various countries, cultures, religions and regions.
