Newly discovered squill named after Ali Nihat Gökyiğit

A new species of Scilla (squill) was discovered in the Alpinic meadows of the Kaçkar Mountains in Northeastern Anatolia, its natural habitat.

Botanists Hasan Yıldırım and Serdar Aslan named Scilla alinihatiana in honour of Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, founder and leading financial contributor of the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden and ANG foundation, for his continued contributions to the Illustrated Flora of Turkey and Turkish botany.
