Ali Nihat Gökyiğit, one of the founding partners of Tekfen Group and Chairman and Managing Director of its Board of Directors, handed over his post and duties to Murat Gigin, member of the Board, at the meeting of the Board of Directors on May 7, 2015.
The Board thanked Gökyiğit for his invaluable work for nearly sixty years, and decided to give him the title of "Founding and Honorary Chairman." Gökyiğit, who will continue to serve on the Board as member, thanked for the title, saying he held many different titles and served in a variety of posts in his lifetime but that this one was for him the pinnacle of his career. Gökyiğit also said that he handed over his post to Murat Gigin with full trust and wished him success.
Gigin joined Tekfen Construction in 1977, serving as General Manager between 1988 and 1998, since which date he has been member of the Board at Tekfen Holding.
Murat Gigin was born in Istanbul in 1952 and graduated from the University of Bradford in Civil Engineering in 1974. He got his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of London in 1975. He then received his Ph.D. in Oceanic Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London.
He began his career at Tekfen Construction in 1977 as civil engineer at the Company's project in Kuwait. Upon his return to the Company's headquarters in Istanbul in 1983, he worked as coordinator on several international projects and manager in the New Business Department until he was appointed Deputy General Manager in 1986. Gigin was General Manager of Tekfen Construction between 1988 and 1998 and Board Member of several Tekfen Contracting Group companies until 2000. Gigin has served as Member of the Board of Directors of Tekfen Holding between 1998-2015. Gigin is also founding partner and Chairman of the Board of Tekzen Ticaret ve Yatırım A.Ş and Zen Enerji.
An activist in a number of NGO's in the past, Gigin was Chairman of IPLOCA (International Pipeline and Offshore Contractors' Association) between 1995 and 1996 and is currently Member of the Board of EDRA (European-DIY Retail Association) and of the Trustees of TEMA Foundation.
