A 25th Anniversary Present from Tekfen to Turkey
Turkey, as one of the few agriculturally self-sufficient
countries in the world, made its major industrialization move in
1980's. Increasing the agricultural productivity would be the only
possible way of providing sufficient food to the increasing population.
In 1981, commemorating its 25th Anniversary, Tekfen
extended its area of activity to Agri-Industry as a part of its
commitment to the development of Turkish agriculture, and started
producing chemical fertilizer, in its Ceyhan factory, under the
trade name Toros Fertilizer.
Today, Toros Tarim, which has become an integrated
group of companies in agricultural input, is the leading fertilizer
producer in Turkey, with its business potential as well as diversity
of its products and activities.
Tekfen Agri-Industry Group, based in Istanbul,
undertakes the production and distribution of chemical fertilizers,
field and vegetable seeds, seedlings and saplings, and offers a
complete chain of services with its bulk terminal, energy production,
free trade zone and bag manufacturing facilities.
As Turkey's biggest chemical fertilizer producer,
Toros Tarim leads the sector with 38% production volume and 25%
market share in production thanks to the active capacity of its
Ceyhan, Mersin and Samsun facilities. Toros also holds 60% of the
market in soluble specialty fertilizer and 40% in greenhouse tomato
seed.

Toros enlightens the future of Turkish agriculture
Toros regards future in line with that of Turkish farmers
and as such, targets sectoral development and increasing
the life standards of agricultural population. Thanks to
Toros Tarim's strong logistic infrastructure and wide network
of dealers around the country, the company delivers high
quality products and services to farmers.
Toros has been keen on establishing strong ties with local
agricultural institutions and organizes training programs
and seminars on contemporary agricultural techniques and
efficient use of fertilizers as well as free soil analysis,
in order to improve agricultural productivity and product
quality, nationwide. These trainings also guide our farmers
about agricultural norms of EU, during the accession period.
The company's research and development base for seed processing
in Antalya focuses on the development of different varieties
of local hybrid vegetables, the efficient use of fertilizers,
compatibility of its products in foreign markets, and on
testing the adaptation quality of foreign products.
Toros Tarim aims at improving its quality and productivity
based on scientific data, and invested in Toros Agripark
in 2004 to become one of its important R&D and production
entities. Toros Agripark is a R&D facility where biotechnological
research studies on vegetal production via "tissue culture",
molecular genetic processing, and production of high quality,
efficient disease-free seeds, seedlings and young plants
are being undertaken.

Wide range of activities
Tekfen Agri-Industry Group, who has not limited itself
to agricultural activities, made Toros Terminal operational
in 1990, as Turkey's biggest dry bulk operation terminal,
next to its Ceyhan Chemical Fertilizer Complex. One of the
most important multipurpose terminals in the entire eastern
Mediterranean region, Toros Terminal handles petroleum products,
coal and grain, as well as offering terminal and storage
services to TAYSEB customers, a successful free trade zone
facility operated again by Tekfen Agri-Industry Group.
TAYSEB (Toros Adana Yumurtalik Free Trade Zone) is operational
since 1998, and is a significant income source for Turkey
and its region, thanks to its strategic location near the
major southern cities of Turkey, and for being easily accessible
by air, road, rail and sea.
